Josh and I are having a particularly hard time tackling a name for our little female on the way (we, of course, had boy names decided on and were ready to name our first born- until we found out we were having a girl). We are running out of time and I would like to decide on something rather quickly. We might just have to go to the hospital with a list and take a look at the little babe before making any decisions.
We thought we had her name selected a few weeks ago but now we aren't so sure. As of now we have a list of about 10 names we are open to but nothing feels quite right. So, we are open to new ideas and suggestions. If anyone has any ideas to throw our way we'd appreciate it. We like more classic/old fashioned names than super trendy soooo 2000-something names. Help!

I really do like Lucy, Zoey, and Clara. Other than that, I'm probably of no help because I like more unique names. :-( Girls are soo hard, good luck!
My great aunt's name was Adele (ah DELL) or it could be spelled Adelle. She was a very lovely and classy lady. I looked it up, that name was popular at the turn of the century. Kinda cool...
I can only imagine the stress it must be naming a child.
oh and it is French :) and the name of a character in Charlotte Bonte's novel Jane Erye and the "Portrait of Adele" by Gustav Klimt is one of the most expensive paintings ever sold! Interesting...
I also like the name Petra. That was Nathan's grandmother's name. Nathan is not crazy about it, but I am hoping we will maybe use it as a middle name. My name, Melody, is not trendy ;)
Good luck!
We had trouble too. It's such a big decision! One site that was helpful was the social security office website. You can break it down by year or state or popularity. Our rule of thumb was not to choose any names in the top 100. happy hunting!

What helped us naming our boys was we picked our top 5 favorites and waited till we saw our little arrival. With Caleb, we had Owen, Gavin and Caleb as our favorites. When I first saw him I immediately thought, "He's a Caleb." After seeing Fred (since I had a c-section) I told him what I thought and he said he thought the exact same thing. So, it will work out but I think it really helps when you actually get to see the little one.
Hi! I found your blog through Brooke & Matt's, and my mom and I love to use your recipes on the Happy Healthy blog!
We are totally opposite of you, I have so many girls names that I love and have no idea what we will name our boys!!
I love the names Nora, Caroline, and Alice-they seem classic. good luck!!
We are all for classic/old-fasioned names too. Hence Owen (which most people think is a newer name). Our girls names are all older too (if we have some that is). I love the name Adelle too. My sister-in-law has an adelle and they all like older names too. So here are a few ideas: Clara (that's one we're thinking of), Rose, Hattie and Mamie (old family names), Tabitha, Olivia, Elizabeth, Eliza, Sophia, Molly, Gretchen (that's my sister-in-laws name), Heidi, Dorthia and call her Dori....That's all I can think of on the top of my head. But I"ll keep thinking and ask my sister-in-laws. Good luck!!
I thought you were naming her Lucy?? I love that name!
Is Londyn too 2000s for you?
I like Lila, Stella, Evelyn and Josie. I've always loved Meg too. Good luck! It's the hardest thing ever to name a baby. Whichever name they choose they'll grow into, so don't worry about making a mistake. Just make sure you like it!
I also like Francesca, but Nathan doesn't...I have tons of girl name ideas, we don't have many ideas for boys.
we went to the airport with like 3 names and decided the day after she was born. I was really nervous about the whole giving her a name thing, but we were really happy with Felicity once we decided on it, and I love it more each day so don't stress you will feel like one fits when you see her!!
I always had to wait and see what the baby looks like to make it final. Good luck!
Coming out of the lurking closet to place my vote....
Sloan
Ridley
Millie
Layla
Mira
Vera (vihr-uh)
My sister just used the name Adelina.. and Addi for short! I loveeee it.... good luck!
Courtney, thanks so much for your nice comment! I think she's pretty spectacular too.
Naming Olivia was PAINFUL. Like, insane. She wasn't named until 3 days after she was born. And now I feel bad for her that her name is in the top 10 most popular from the year she was born. How were we to know that when she came only 8 days after the year began??
Anyway, I saw once that you were considering Isla, which I LOVE. We also considered Edie (ee-dee), but were too worried that she'd end up as Eddy her whole life.
And Lucy is beautiful, too!
